Cricket Spikes or Moulded Studs? Choose Shoes for Your Playing Surface

By SEGASTORE. Product comparisons below use the specifications listed on our product pages. Check the selected size and colour for current availability.
Choose cricket shoes for the surface you will play on and the footwear your club permits. Metal spikes and moulded studs have different outsole configurations. Neither is the right choice for every pitch, net or training session.
Start with the venue's requirements
Ask your club or ground staff about match pitches, practice nets and indoor areas separately. Grass, artificial wickets and sports-hall floors can have different requirements. Do not assume that footwear allowed during a match is also allowed in the nets or clubhouse.
Metal spikes are often considered for appropriate grass surfaces, subject to the ground's rules. Moulded or rubber studs may be relevant where spikes are restricted, but the individual shoe still needs to suit the actual surface. The venue's decision takes priority over general shopping advice.
Compare the two outsole types
| Type | What to check | Examples to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Metal spikes | Permitted surface, spike fittings, configuration and condition | Bold, P-25 Precision |
| Moulded or rubber studs | Outsole pattern, stated use and surface restrictions | Reach Moulded Studs, Parker R07 |
Look beyond the spikes
The QUIVE SEGA Bold product specification lists a metal-spike outsole, bevelled heel, external support strap and breathable mesh panels. It is described for bowling on suitable cricket surfaces. Compare those features with your preferred fastening and underfoot feel.
The SEGA P-25 Precision lists a PU upper, EVA midsole and reinforced toe cap. These construction details offer a different comparison point from simply selecting a shoe because it has metal spikes.
For a moulded-stud shortlist, compare Reach and Parker R07 through their product pages. Review the outsole images, materials and fit information. This guide does not claim that one model is better for every batting, bowling or fielding role.
Are the metal spikes detachable?
SEGASTORE's metal-spike cricket shoes have detachable spikes. Check the individual model and existing fitting before buying replacement parts. Detachable does not mean that any replacement spike is compatible, or that removing metal spikes makes the shoe suitable for an otherwise prohibited surface.
Use the correct tool and follow the product instructions. Inspect the fittings before play, replace damaged components with compatible parts, and avoid forcing a fitting. Do not invent a spike length or thread specification from the model name.
Check fit with your match socks
The current models are listed as standard width and use UK sizes. Try the shoes with the socks or supports you intend to wear. Fasten them evenly and check for toe pressure, heel movement and discomfort across the instep on a clean indoor surface.
Use our size and fit guide for measuring advice. Choosing a shoe for its outsole alone will not solve an unsuitable fit. Do not use an uncomfortable pair for a training session to see whether it loosens.
Cleaning and storage
Remove soil gently after play and let shoes dry at room temperature. Keep metal-spike shoes off surfaces where the ground or venue prohibits them. Follow the care instructions; direct heat may damage materials and sole attachment.
